The National Coordination Council(NCC) of Non-Resident Nepalis-Canada (NRN-Canada) is organizing a series of community interaction programs with Nepalese community members throughout Canada. These interaction programs are intended for reaching out to local community associations as well as other community members who do not belong to associations. The NCC would like to avoid duplications and create synergy with all community and other organizations that exist throughout Canada. This interaction program is organized in this context.

In the program, Honorary Consul General of Nepal and NRN-Canada Advisor Dr. Kunjar Mani Sharma and NRN-Canada President Naba Raj Gurung will bring light into where NRN-Canada has arrived thus far and what are its future directions. Most of all, they are here to interact with the community members to understand the aspirations of our community and to identify where the community would like NRN-Canada to focus on.

Program Objectives

  1. To create awareness about NRN movement and NRN-Canada
  2. To gather inputs on vision, mission, goals and strategic objectives of NRN-Canada
  3. Developing strategies to advance the issues of dual citizenship and other NRN rights and responsibilities
  4. Gather suggestions on programs, activities, and broader issues of NRN members
  5. Membership drive

About NRN-Canada

Registered with the Government of Canada in March 2007 as a non-profit representative organization of the people of Nepalese origin living in Canada, NRN-Canada is primarily concerned in promoting the common interests of its members in Canada and Nepal. Independently registered in Canada, NRN-Canada is a member organization of Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), which is a representative organization of the people of Nepalese origin living abroad (specifically outside SAARC countries). Every two years, NRN wolds an international convention of the representatives of NCCs and an International Coordination Council (ICC) gets elected. The NRN-ICC has a permanent secretariat in Kathmandu, Nepal.

NRNA has set its objective to foster closer relationship and cooperation among the NRN community around the world and between the NRN community and Nepal. According to NRNA constitution, the association shall:

  1. Promote Nepal and generate support for its interest in countries of their residence and at international organizations;
  2. Facilitate and attract NRN and foreign investment in Nepal;
  3. Strive to create conditions conducive to investment by the NRN in Nepal and the utilisation in Nepal of the talents and skills of the NRN;
  4. Foster closer co-operation among the NRN communities scattered in different parts of the world; and
  5. Function as an international forum for the promotion and protection of the interests of the NRN communities both in Nepal and abroad.

The NRN-Canada was registered through a provisional council, which subsequently organized a national convention in August 2008. The convention elected a National Coordination Council, which acts as the representative assembly of the Non-resident Nepalese in Canada. Please visit www.nrn-canada.org for further information on NRN-Canada and visit www.nrn.org.np for further information on NRNA.
